What is the critical wavelength? And what is Boots Star Rating?

First, let's understand the differences between different types of ultraviolet light:
UVA : Causes photoaging, wrinkles, dark spots, skin laxity, pigmentation, releases free radicals that can induce skin cancer or melanoma.
UVB : Sunburn, sun damage, burning pain, blisters, peeling, and tanning of the skin.
UVC : Because it cannot reach the ground, it does not directly harm the skin.

People might ask, "Then why does the bottle only say SPF50? Isn't the SPF value only for UVB protection? Why isn't the UVA protection factor listed?"

Don't worry, if it can only protect against a single type of ultraviolet radiation, it's not a qualified sunscreen product.
We have two ways to determine whether a product is good or not: the critical wavelength value and the Boots Star Rating .

Critical wavelength
The critical wavelength of a sunscreen product is an indicator of its "breadth" of protection. As the wavelength of radiation increases, the protective efficacy of the sunscreen product decreases.
At a certain critical point, the protective capability will suddenly drop sharply. The wavelength at which the protective capability drops sharply is called the "critical wavelength".
Therefore, the higher the number of a sunscreen product, the better its protection across a wide range of wavelengths. If the critical wavelength of a sunscreen product is measured to be above 370nm, it means that the product provides even protection against both UVB and UVA rays.
Only products with a critical wavelength exceeding 380nm can be considered advanced-level products.
The no-additive pure and lightweight sunscreen lotion has a critical wavelength of 381 nm, providing excellent protection against both UVA and UVB rays!

Boots Star Rating
The Boots Star Rating is a calculation of the "sun protection evenness" of sunscreen products. It was originally proposed by the British company Boots, and the calculation method is to divide the protection against UVA by the protection against UVB.
Simply put, the closer the calculation result is to 1, the more even the protection of this sunscreen is, and the more completely it can resist the damage of ultraviolet rays to the skin!

The Boots Star Rating for the No Added Pure Light Sunscreen Lotion is 3 stars.

What does "ocean-friendly" mean? Does applying sunscreen before going to the beach mean it won't have any negative effects?

Ocean Friendly
Products that "do not contain ingredients that would harm corals or damage marine ecosystems"
The sunscreen we apply at the beach can protect our skin from sun damage, but it also causes coral bleaching in the sea, seriously affecting the marine ecosystem.
Statistics show that up to 14,000 metric tons of sunscreen flow into the ocean every year. Activities such as diving and surfing allow sunscreen to enter the ocean "directly," making us unknowingly become killers of the marine ecosystem.

Even if you don't go to the beach, it could still endanger the ocean?
To protect the ocean, we need to start with our daily lives!

Statistics show that up to 70% of the sunscreen ingredients flowing into the ocean each year come from sewage discharge systems, while only 30% are washed off the beach. This means that when we shower, do laundry, and clean ourselves, we also release residual sunscreen into the ocean, indirectly affecting coral reefs and marine ecosystems.

Which ingredients in sunscreens cause coral bleaching?

63% of the ingredients in traditional sunscreens are considered harmful to marine ecosystems, human health, or both.

This no-addition sunscreen lotion is 100% natural and scientifically proven to be safe and harmless to coral reefs, marine wildlife, and human health. All ingredients used in this sunscreen meet GRAS (generally recognized as safe and effective) standards. (US FDA sunscreen monograph)
Free from sunscreen ingredients banned by governments such as Palau and Hawaii (more than 10 kinds); don't let controversial sunscreen ingredients flow into the ocean with household wastewater.

📌Active Ingredients

⛱ Titanium dioxide (refracts sunlight back) -
Physical sunscreens are believed to work by using particles of physical sunscreens that reflect, scatter, and refract ultraviolet rays to protect the skin from harmful UV radiation.
Replacing chemical sunscreen ingredients is not only coral-friendly but also gentler on the skin, allowing us to protect our planet while focusing on whitening and sun protection!

⛱ Potassium glycyrrhizate (a precious pure substance extracted from the licorice plant) -
"Whitening Gold" has powerful antioxidant effects, effectively reducing skin amine production and soothing the skin. It can increase the skin's defense capabilities while improving skin elasticity and hydration.

⛱ Nicotinamide (Vitamin B3) -
Known for its soothing and moisturizing properties, it can fade freckles and dark spots, even out skin tone, improve dullness, brighten skin, and reduce clogged pores.

Centella Asiatica Extract -
It improves skin problems such as redness and acne, soothes and calms sensitive skin, reduces inflammation and allergies, provides refreshing hydration, and regulates oil balance.

⛱ Anti-allergy tetrapeptide (premium soothing factor) -
Effectively soothes discomfort symptoms such as redness, swelling, heat, and itching caused by sensitivity and inflammation, and calms and soothes environmental irritants to the skin.
Increase skin tolerance

⛱ Purple Rice Extract -
Purple rice is made from premium rice grown in the unpolluted coastal mountains of Hualien, irrigated with high-quality natural spring water. Due to limited access to this spring water, the planting area is restricted, resulting in a scarce and precious yield. Purple rice extract is derived from rice bran. Purple rice boasts an antioxidant capacity of up to 70%, effectively slowing down aging.

⛱ Magnesium phosphate for Vitamin C -
One of the vitamin C derivatives recognized by the World Health Organization and clinically proven to have the effects of fading dark spots and reducing wrinkles.
It evens out and brightens skin tone, firms skin, and soothes and repairs sensitive skin.
