What is Critical Wavelength and Boots Star Rating? UVA This ray penetrates deep into the skin, causing photo-aging, wrinkles, dark spots, sagging, and pigmentation. It also releases free radicals that can induce skin cancer or melanoma. UVB This ray affects the skin's surface, leading to redness, sunburn, stinging, blistering, and peeling. It is the primary cause of tanning. UVC These rays are absorbed by the atmosphere and do not reach the ground, so they do not cause direct damage to the skin.
